Donna & Quintin’s Love Story

Updated: Nov 17, 2023

Happy February, friends! With Valentine’s Day weekend right around the corner, I thought I would share with you how Quintin and I first met and how our love story has evolved.

Quin and I both attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. I was a botany/microbiology major, and Quin was pre-med. We first met in microbiology class.

Quin says he tried to get my attention throughout our junior year. He remembers asking me to dance at a party, but I turned him down. He thought it was because I didn’t like him; actually, it was because I am a terrible dancer.

It wasn’t until he came back from spring break that I really started to notice him. He was wearing a pink shirt, which set off his Florida tan, and I thought, “This must be an interesting guy. I need to get to know him better.”

We had our first date at the Columbus Zoo. There, we watched a gorilla eat his food, throw it up, and then eat it again. That should have been my first clue that life with Quin would be memorable.

But I truly fell in love with him when we talked one day about the things that mattered to him most – family, faith, setting goals, laying out a future, and contributing to our community. Not topics a typical college senior was thinking about.

After 41 years of marriage, I can say that our life together has never been boring. It’s always been an adventure, filled with everything we discussed many years ago.

Together, we’ve made Catawba Island and Port Clinton our home. It’s the amazing community we’ve raised our four children and where our 11 grandchildren continue to grow up, all because two people fell in love.

What’s your love story?
